ESSE knives are made from 1095 high-carbon steel. And since 1095 is a top choice for professional field knives, it will rust and corrode if not properly cared for – especially on the blade edge and around the laser engraving. The user is responsible for keeping the blades well lubricated and clean. We recommend a dry lubricant such as TUF-GLIDE or TUF-CLOTH. We use a powder coat finish over a heat-treated coating on all of our coated knives. It is normal for the finish to wear over time.
