SURVIVAL IN THE WILD
NOTE FROM BEAR GRYLLS This book gathers the experiences of many of my friends (both their personal victories and failures) and is the result of many years spent in nature with a variety of people. But I especially want to thank my friend Andrew “Woody” Wood. Together, we've explored and trekked through numerous “interesting” places over the years. Woody and I have roamed countless jungles and marshes, crossed many dusty deserts and deserted mountains. Woody is always steady, calm, very amusing, and possesses unparalleled knowledge of wilderness survival. He is an expert in the true sense of the word (although he would vehemently deny it) and for many years he has studied and honed his survival skills among indigenous peoples and tribes worldwide. These journeys have convinced us that there is a great deal to learn from others, and that for the expert, the learning process never ends. I am determined to prove that ancient survival practices, perfected by natives and adventurers, combined with practical military intelligence methods, can be successfully merged to provide the modern scout with all the knowledge they might need in the wilderness.
