Gransfors Bruks axe handles are designed by Hans Erik Persson.

The handle has an ergonomic design that provides a secure and comfortable grip. Most of them are made from Hickory wood, which is strong and flexible. Some models are made from European beech. The handles are impregnated with warm linseed oil and beeswax, which enhances their quality.

All handles, except for the Small Hatchet and Outdoor Axe, are supplied together with a wooden wedge and a three-wing iron wedge.

The Small Hatchet and Outdoor Axe are supplied only with a wooden wedge, as these handles have a high risk of cracking if an iron wedge is driven in.

The Splitting Maul axe features a steel collar to protect the handle. Replacement handles for these axes include the collar attached to the handle. Replacing the handle on an axe with a steel collar requires a little more effort than a standard wooden handle. More force is needed to press the axe head onto the handle, and it is important to ensure that the collar fits slightly into the eye of the axe (the opening in the axe head). If the collar is not pressed into the opening, the handle will become loose.
