A NOTE FROM BEAR GRYLLS This book brings together the experience of many of my friends (both their personal successes and failures) and is the result of many years spent outdoors with many different people. But I especially want to thank my friend Andrew „Woody” Wood. Together, we have explored and traversed many „interesting” places over the years. Woody and I have roamed through countless jungles and swamps, crossed many dusty deserts and remote mountains. Woody is always steady, calm, great fun, and possesses unrivalled knowledge of wilderness survival. He is an expert in the truest sense of the word (although he would firmly deny it), and for many years he has studied and honed his survival skills among natives and tribes all over the world.These journeys convinced us that there is a tremendous amount we can learn from others, and that for the expert, the learning process never ends. I am firmly determined to prove that ancient survival practices, refined to perfection by natives and adventurers, and practical military reconnaissance methods can be successfully combined to give the modern scout all the knowledge he could ever need in the wild.
