It is debatable when and where the blowgun (a tube for launching darts) was invented. It was originally created to serve as a hunting weapon for small animals and birds, using small pebbles or hardened clay balls as ammunition. Eventually, most hunters discovered that they could hunt much larger animals by using thin wooden darts soaked in deadly poison. In the early 1960s and 1970s, the blowgun began to gain popularity in the USA. Countless orders were placed with the manufacturer Jivaro Blowgun Company, which produced .38 caliber blowguns. The „dart tube” became the starting point for numerous adventures, films, and survival magazines. Eventually, by the late 1980s, its popularity declined. But the mystique of the blowgun did not disappear. During this period, the market was flooded with cheap and poorly made models. They were made from thin sheets of aluminum and were highly ineffective. The only exception was the company of J.R. Stupero and its successors, J.W. McFarlin Company, which produced authentic, quality hunting blowguns from thick aluminum using the Magnum .625 dart. The current blowgun model, the Big Bore .625 Magnum™ from Cold Steel, has an effective range of over 20 meters. The tube length is 152 cm. The take-down set includes 36 darts: 12 stun darts, 12 "mini broad head", 6 "hunting broad head", and 6 "bamboo", plus a dart quiver.
