Using the Katadyn Explorer Pro Purifier involves a few easy steps to pump clean water while taking advantage of its three-stage filtration system (ceramic, activated carbon, and anti-virus membrane). 
Steps for use:
Preparing the inlet hose: Submerge the inlet hose (the one with the prefilter) in the water source. Make sure the prefilter is fully underwater, but not resting in silt or sand at the bottom so it does not clog quickly.
Connecting the outlet hose: Place the clean outlet hose into the container in which you will collect the purified water (bottle, canteen, or hydration system).
Pumping: Use the hand pump with smooth, steady strokes. The unit is designed with a metal piston for greater durability in extreme conditions.
After use (Cleaning):
Pump a little air through the system to remove residual water from the hoses and housing.
If the ceramic filter becomes clogged (pumping becomes difficult), remove it and clean it carefully with the supplied abrasive sponge.
